Haneda Airport Parking Guide | Convenient and Affordable Parking Options

Haneda Airport Terminal 3 is the terminal where international flights operate.
During regular seasons, parking for both domestic and international flights is usually not an issue. However, during peak seasons, the parking lots quickly fill up. Additionally, long lines form to enter the parking areas, which could cause you to miss your flight. Many people also want to park their cars for extended periods near Haneda Airport. However, the concern is the parking fee system and availability.

In this article, we will explain the parking situation around Haneda Airport and the parking fee structure in a way that is easy for foreigners to understand.

When are Japan’s peak seasons?

There are three major peak seasons in Japan. Parking lots and airports are crowded during the following periods each year.

① Golden Week (Late April to early May)

Golden Week is a week of consecutive national holidays in Japan, during which domestic travel is highly active.

② Summer Vacation Season (Late July to the end of August)

Mid-August is the Obon period, which is the peak of the peak season.

③ Christmas to New Year’s (Late December to early January)

This is another high-traffic period with heavy congestion.

What is the parking system at Haneda Airport?

Haneda Airport has a total of five parking lots: four directly connected to domestic flights (P1, P2, P3, P4), and one parking lot (P5) connected to international flights. Each of these multistory parking lots, from P1 to P5, can accommodate about 2,000 to 3,000 vehicles. Except for P1, the other parking lots (P2, P3, P4, P5) can be reserved.

You can make a reservation starting 30 days before the intended date of use. However, during peak seasons, reservations may be filled up in an instant. Therefore, it is recommended to book as early as possible.

The assumption that “it’s an early morning flight, so it should be fine” is false.
Even in the early morning, there are often long lines of cars. The vehicles exiting the parking lots belong to passengers arriving on early flights who drove to Haneda Airport. So, if the parking lot becomes full early in the morning, it will likely remain stationary until around 8:30 AM, when other passengers from arriving flights begin to disembark. This means that if you arrive at the airport for a flight scheduled between 8:30 and 9:30 AM and encounter a parking line, boarding your flight could become quite difficult.

Parking lots around Haneda Airport

There are also parking lots around Haneda Airport, but their fee structures vary.
The parking lots at Haneda Airport are designed for long-term parking, with fees calculated on a daily (24-hour) basis. This results in a clear pricing structure, such as ¥2,000 per day × 5 days (for a total of ¥10,000 over 5 days).

However, parking lots around Haneda Airport have different pricing systems, so you need to be careful. Here is a brief explanation of how the fees are structured.

In urban areas, and around airports and train stations, parking fees are generally higher.
The units of time that fees are calculated in—such as 10 minutes, 30 minutes, or 1 hour—also differ. Some places have a maximum daily fee, while others continuously increase the fee in increments of 30 minutes. The signage explaining these fees is often detailed and entirely in Japanese, which can confuse foreign visitors. As a result, some people unknowingly leave their car parked in an expensive lot and return from their trip to find a hefty parking bill. Therefore, it’s better to avoid parking just anywhere because you’re in a rush to catch your flight.
